‘The car is the closest thing we will ever create to something that’s alive.’
This fine sentence, courtesy of one of the more talented men to leave his marks on the automotive industry, sums up why this website is about cars, rather than toasters.
As consumer goods go, the automobile has to be at the very top of the emotional scale, and not just due to the fact that it is the second-most expensive purchase of most people’s lives.
The emotion associated with cars means that there are almost as many opinions about cars and their design as there are actual vehicles around.
The variety of automotive design in turn means that simple terms usually aren’t good enough to encapsulate a car’s form. Which is why I intend to depict the style of the cars I’m portraying through the smallest of details, was well as the broadest historical contexts.
Just like with people, beauty isn’t the be-all and end-all. Of much greater importance is what any automobile has got to say about its origins, its creators and its owners.
On occasion, said creators themselves will be the subject of this website, granting us a glimpse behind the curtain of automotive history.
I kindly invite you along.
